EED is delighted to be representing a private owner based in Dubai, seeking an experienced Captain for their 40m motor yacht. This is a full-time, permanent position and an excellent opportunity for a professional Captain, or a senior Chief Officer ready to step up, who can run a private yacht to the standard expected by a VVIP family.

The Captain has full command of the vessel and is accountable to the owner for its safe navigation, technical condition, regulatory compliance, budget and the standard of service on board. The role combines operational command with crew leadership, oversight of maintenance alongside the Chief Engineer, and close liaison with the owner, the management company, and the owner’s family and guests.

Itineraries and cruising schedules are planned around the owner’s family and guests, so the successful candidate will be as comfortable hosting a private family on board as managing the technical and regulatory side of the vessel. Experience in the Arabian Gulf would be a strong advantage.

The position is based in Dubai, with 60 days’ paid leave per year, visa and standard crew benefits provided.

Key Responsibilities

• Safe navigation and operation of the yacht in all conditions, including passage planning and weather routing
• Overall command and management of the crew, including recruitment, rotation, training and welfare
• Maintaining compliance with flag state, port state and class requirements, including ISM/ISPS where applicable
• Oversight of planned maintenance, refits, repairs and dry-docking, working with the Chief Engineer
• Managing the yacht’s operating budget, including crew costs, provisioning, fuel, berthing and maintenance
• Liaising with the owner, management company, marinas, port authorities, shipyards and contractors
• Planning itineraries and cruising schedules around the owner’s family and guests
• Ensuring safety, security and emergency procedures are in place, drilled and documented
• Maintaining the vessel’s records, certification and insurance requirements
• Representing the owner with discretion and professionalism at all times

Candidate Requirements

• Valid Master licence appropriate to the yacht’s tonnage and flag (e.g. Master 500GT or equivalent), with current STCW certification
• Valid medical certificate (ENG1 or equivalent) and GMDSS certification
• Proven experience as Captain, or as a senior Chief Officer ready to step up, on motor yachts of comparable size
• Strong technical understanding of the vessel’s systems, with the ability to manage a Chief Engineer and maintenance programme
• Proven crew leadership, including managing a small multicultural team
• Experience with budgets, compliance and owner or management-company reporting
• Excellent written and spoken English, with the polish expected in a high-net-worth environment
• Discreet, professional and personable, comfortable with VVIP owners, families and guests
• Right to work in the UAE, or able to obtain it
• Strong references from comparable yacht positions
• Experience operating in the Arabian Gulf and Dubai (strongly preferred)
• Experience with private-owner families, including children and extended guests (strongly preferred)
• Experience with refits and dry-dock projects (strongly preferred)
• Arabic or another additional language (strongly preferred)

The Offer

• Salary: USD 10,000–12,000 per month, tax-free, depending on experience and qualifications
