Job Description

After-School & Weekend Governess for 4-Year-Old Girl

Ascot, Berkshire, UK

Part-time, afternoons & weekends

From £60,000/year

Start TBC

Ref: FG7087

EED is delighted to be representing a private family based in Ascot, seeking a warm, experienced educational governess for their young daughter. This is a long-term position for someone who can grow with the little girl and support her education and development over the coming years.

The child is playful, active and curious, and loves games, creative activities and learning through play. The family is therefore looking for someone who makes learning enjoyable and engaging, rather than taking an overly formal or academic approach. Language development and pronunciation matter a great deal to the family.

The governess will spend afternoons and weekends playing with her and organising educational and creative activities. As she gets older, the role will grow to include homework and schoolwork support. While she is at school or nursery, the role can include child-related tasks: organising the playroom and wardrobe, planning activities and preparing her meals. The family would ideally like someone who can cook for her.

A flat near the family home can be provided, with an automatic car if needed.

Working schedule: 4 hours a day on 3 weekdays, with Monday and Tuesday off by default (these can move if needed), plus weekend days of up to 8 hours. One week per month, Sunday and Monday are taken off instead, giving the governess a weekend day to themselves. This can also be arranged ad hoc as required.

Key Responsibilities

  • Leading play-based educational and creative activities on afternoons and weekends
  • Supporting language development and clear pronunciation
  • Growing into homework and schoolwork support as she gets older
  • Planning activities and organising the playroom and wardrobe
  • Preparing healthy, child-friendly meals
  • Building a warm, consistent, long-term relationship with the child and family

Candidate Requirements

  • Native-level English with clear, standard British English pronunciation, given the family’s focus on language development
  • Strong understanding of early years development and the British education system
  • Teaching or early years qualification, with proven experience of play-based learning
  • Right to work in the UK
  • Enhanced DBS check and excellent, verifiable references
  • Kind, energetic, creative and organised
  • Warm, patient and reliable, with a genuine interest in a long-term placement
  • Full, clean driving licence (strongly preferred)
  • Able to prepare healthy, child-friendly meals (strongly preferred)
  • Experience working in a private household (strongly preferred)

The Offer

  • Salary: from £60,000 gross per annum, depending on experience and qualifications
  • Accommodation: a flat near the family home can be provided, with a car if required
  • Paid holiday: to be confirmed
  • Long-term position, based in Ascot
  • Start date: to be confirmed
