EED is delighted to be representing a private family seeking a reliable, practical couple to look after their home in Vence, in the South of France. This is a permanent live-in position (CDI), not seasonal, with staff accommodation provided on the property.
The household is two principal owners, with up to around five guests for short stays. The owners spend about six months a year in residence, mostly in summer, and the house is well used when they are there. The couple keep it running year-round as the on-site housekeeping and caretaking team.
Cooking matters to the family, though the role is not a chef position. The owner enjoys cooking and does most of the daily cooking and shopping, and the household has some dietary restrictions. The couple’s contribution is preparing salads and simple, light lunch dishes, learning a few of the owner’s own simple recipes (such as ice cream and chocolate cookies), and helping in the kitchen when guests are staying.
The contract is 35 hours per week over five days. Overtime is occasional only, requested rather than expected, and compensated as time off. Accommodation is a 60m² staff apartment with its own terrace and a separate entrance.
Key Responsibilities
- General cleaning, with good knowledge of how to treat different surfaces
- Laundry, ironing and simple sewing
- DIY and small repairs
- Car maintenance and occasional chauffeur duties
- Looking after the vegetable garden
- Seasonal: maintenance and repair of garden furniture, cleaning the pool and terraces, treating terraces with appropriate products, and cleaning outdoor mattresses
- Preparing salads and simple, light lunch dishes, following the owner’s recipes and dietary requirements
- Helping in the kitchen when guests are staying
Candidate Requirements
- A couple, with both partners able to cover the housekeeping and caretaking duties
- Previous experience as a housekeeper, caretaker or similar in a private home
- Good conversational English, to communicate comfortably with the owners
- Working French, to coordinate with staff and local suppliers
- Right to live and work in France
- Full driving licence, comfortable with occasional chauffeur duties
- Practical and hands-on, comfortable with DIY, garden and general maintenance
- Comfortable with simple, light cooking and following the owner’s recipes and dietary requirements
- Discreet, reliable and comfortable living on site
- Strong references
- Experience with fine surfaces and delicate household items (strongly preferred)
- Experience with pool and terrace maintenance (strongly preferred)
- Experience supporting a household with guests (strongly preferred)
The Offer
- Salary: from €6,000 net per month for the couple, plus bonuses, depending on experience
- Permanent live-in position (CDI), not seasonal
- 5 days per week, 35-hour contract, with occasional overtime compensated as time off
