£127,000 - £187,000 yearly

Job Description

Full-time Residential Private Educator/Governess for Twins (5YO) in Washington, D.C., USA

ESSENTIAL NON-NEGOTIABLE: US citizen or holder of valid US work authorisation (Green Card, EAD or equivalent)

Ref: FG7042

EED is delighted to be representing a high-profile international family based in Washington D.C. (and occasionally New York), who are seeking an exceptional residential private educator for their 5-year-old twins. This is a long-term position, with a trial and start as soon as possible.

The Role

The twins are currently educated at home, and the parents are looking for an elite educator to take full ownership of their academic development over the next two to three years, in a fully homeschooled environment. Both children are bright and inquisitive.

The parents want an education that prepares their children for a fast-changing world rather than a conventional one. That means teaching children to think from first principles, reason through problems, make decisions and build things, rather than memorise content. The approach should be structured and academically rigorous, with clear progression and measurable outcomes. It should also be forward-looking, weaving in mathematics and logic, science, engineering, coding and real-world problem-solving from the very start, and moving each child at their own pace rather than by age or grade level. This is not a play-based role.

The position is purely educational. The family employ full-time nannies, so the educator’s focus is entirely on teaching, curriculum design and the children’s progress. The household is fully staffed with long-tenured team members across personal training, culinary and childcare, and the family invest deeply in the people around them.

The family travel frequently, often by private jet, and the educator travels with them, with all expenses covered and business class as a minimum.

Working schedule: Monday to Friday, 8:00am to 5:00pm, on a 3 weeks on / 1 week off rotation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Designing and delivering an ambitious, structured home education programme for two children, built around reasoning, problem-solving and early STEM as well as strong literacy and numeracy

  • Building individual plans for each child, with clear progression, measurable outcomes and pacing based on ability rather than age

  • Bringing real-world projects, logic challenges and hands-on building and experimentation into daily learning

  • Monitoring and reporting each child’s progress directly to the parents

  • Keeping learning consistent across multiple residences and travel periods

  • Working professionally with the family’s nannies and wider household team

  • Operating with absolute discretion within a high-profile household

The Candidate

Essential requirements:

  • An elite educator, with a top-tier academic background and a recognised teaching qualification from any leading system (US, UK, IB or equivalent)

  • Proven experience at a leading independent, innovative or highly selective school, or in established private education at the highest level

  • Strong early-years and early-primary teaching expertise, with the academic depth to stretch gifted young children

  • Genuine strength in mathematics, logic and STEM, and confidence introducing coding, engineering and problem-based learning to young children

  • Experience designing an original curriculum, not just delivering a set one

  • A structured, rigorous teaching style focused on measurable progress

  • Fluent English, native level preferred

  • Already holding the right to work in the US: US citizenship, a green card, or a valid work visa

  • Comfortable with extensive travel and a rotational schedule

  • Complete discretion, professionalism and comfort with an NDA

  • Open to thorough reference verification

Strongly preferred:

  • Experience in project-based, first-principles or other progressive, high-performance learning models

  • Prior experience in UHNW or high-profile private households

The Package

  • Salary: $170,000–250,000 per year, depending on experience and calibre

  • Private single-room accommodation provided

  • All travel and travel expenses covered, business class minimum, with frequent private jet travel

  • Long-term placement, minimum 2–3 years

  • Start: ASAP

Trial

The family will hold a paid trial as soon as possible with a candidate they feel strongly about, and once they meet the right person they will commit quickly.
