EED is delighted to be representing an Irish-Canadian family based in Singapore, seeking an experienced, active governor for their son, aged 5. This is a long-term appointment, ideally for the duration of the primary school years and beyond—the family is committed to finding the right person and wants the governor to become a trusted, consistent figure in their son’s life, someone who can get to know him and support his development across academics, sports, and character over several years.

The little boy has recently started school and is thriving—well-behaved, enthusiastic, and with a wide range of interests, including music (piano, drums), rugby, football, tennis, and gymnastics.

The role is primarily after-school (he is in school from 8:30am–2:00pm), with occasional weekend hours and some travel with the family when required. The governor will work as part of a small household team, supporting his schoolwork and supplementary educational development, coordinating directly with his teachers, and reporting regularly to the father on academic progress and any areas of development.

The family wants someone who can engage meaningfully with the boy’s existing sporting and musical activities and bring genuine enthusiasm to them, rather than simply supervising from the sidelines. Alongside this, the governor will build a structured and enjoyable schedule in collaboration with the family, balancing enrichment activities with downtime and providing pastoral support to ensure the boy is happy, healthy, and making the most of the opportunities available to him.

Working schedule: 5 days per week, primarily after-school hours, with occasional weekend days and travel with the family as required.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supporting the boy’s schoolwork and supplementary educational development, building on what he is learning in school and filling gaps proactively as his curriculum advances
  • Coordinating directly with his school teachers and reporting regularly to the father on academic progress and any concerns
  • Actively participating in and encouraging his existing sport and music activities—piano, drums, rugby, football, tennis and gymnastics
  • Creating a structured, enjoyable schedule in collaboration with the family, balancing enrichment with downtime

  • Advising the parents with candour when something needs attention
  • Travelling with the family as required
  • Working professionally alongside the wider household team

Candidate Requirements

  • UK or Irish passport holder essential (required for travel)
  • PGCE, QTS, or equivalent teaching qualification essential
  • Background in PE or primary education strongly preferred; candidates with dual specialisations (academic + PE) particularly sought after
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in a comparable role—private household, prep school or equivalent
  • Genuinely active, energetic personality—enthusiasm for sport (at least one of rugby, football or tennis) essential
  • Love of music a significant advantage
  • Able to connect with a five-year-old boy on his level while maintaining the professional standing to brief his parents with confidence
  • Able to advise parents on educational strategy, communicate with teachers and write structured progress reports
  • Excellent, checkable references essential
  • Professional, discreet and comfortable working within a small household team
