FG7044: English & French-Speaking Governess for Twins (10) — Abuja, Nigeria

EED is delighted to be representing a warm and welcoming private family based in Abuja, Nigeria, seeking an experienced, professional and engaging live-in governess to provide educational guidance and developmental support to their 10-year-old twins – a boy and a girl.

This is a full-time, long-term position ideally suited to a qualified teacher or career governess with a strong academic background and experience supporting children of a similar age. The family is particularly interested in candidates with a clear British accent, as the children are expected to continue their education in the UK. French language skills are highly desirable.

The successful candidate will work alongside an established household team — including a live-in British tutor, nanny, chef, housekeeper and drivers — allowing complete focus on the children’s education, personal development and wellbeing. The role combines academic mentoring, educational planning, school liaison and the promotion of healthy routines, independence, confidence and age-appropriate life skills.

Working schedule: 6 days per week with one weekday off (a 5-day schedule may be considered for exceptional candidates). Significant downtime during school hours for lesson preparation and planning.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Providing educational support and academic guidance for twins aged 10
• Assisting with homework, revision, project work and holiday assignments
• Developing engaging educational activities tailored to the children’s learning needs and interests
• Liaising regularly with school staff, tutors and parents regarding academic progress and development
• Monitoring educational performance and preparing progress reports as required
• Supporting the children’s social, emotional and personal development
• Encouraging independence, organisation, responsibility and positive study habits
• Coordinating and maintaining structured after-school and holiday schedules
• Promoting participation in sports, physical activities and healthy lifestyle routines
• Organising creative and practical learning opportunities — arts, crafts, science projects, and educational outings where appropriate
• Accompanying the family on occasional international travel when required
• Collaborating effectively with the wider household team to ensure consistency in the children’s routines and development

CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS

• Qualified teacher, educational professional or experienced private governess
• Minimum 5 years’ relevant experience working with children aged 8–12
• Native-level or fluent English speaker with a clear British accent strongly preferred
• French language skills highly desirable
• Strong understanding of child development and modern educational practices
• Experience liaising with schools, tutors and educational professionals
• Confident creating learning plans, educational activities and developmental goals
• Previous private household, VIP, UHNW, international family or boarding school experience advantageous
• Interest in sports, tennis, football, swimming, gymnastics, cookery, sewing, arts and crafts or similar extracurricular activities beneficial
• Energetic, patient, calm, organised and nurturing personality
• Flexible, adaptable and comfortable working within a fully staffed private household
• Willing and able to travel internationally when required
