Overview

We are searching for a warm, proactive and highly organized Shared-Care Nanny for an international, well-traveled family based in a Tribeca loft in New York City. The family has two young daughters: a toddler born in February 2024 who attends a Montessori preschool in SoHo, and a baby born in July 2026 who is settling into her routines after an early preterm arrival. Mum is at home full-time and closely involved in every part of the girls’ day, while Dad’s work schedule often makes him unavailable. Mum is looking for a true co-parent and partner: someone who can be an extension of herself, share the mental load of family life, and help raise her daughters in line with the family’s values. The home loosely follows Montessori and Reggio Emilia principles, is screen-free around the children (with some exceptions), and values real-life tasks, structured but relaxed mealtimes, music and early learning. This is a long-term position, ideal for an energetic, neat-by-nature early years professional with a love of cooking who wants to stay with one family and guide both girls from the baby and toddler years through to school age. While this is a shared-care position with a hands-on mum, over the coming year there will be periods when Mum is less available, and the nanny will need to step in confidently and take on full care of both girls during those times.

Key Responsibilities

  • Newborn & Toddler Care: Provide nurturing, hands-on care for both girls, alternating between them so each gets one-on-one time with Mum. Support the baby’s feeding and sleep, including gently helping her learn to self-soothe and building a rhythm suited to her age and abilities.
  • Full Care Cover: Step in fully and independently to care for both children whenever Mum is unavailable, keeping their routines consistent and calm.
  • Development & Early Learning: Plan rich, play-based activities informed by Montessori and/or Reggio Emilia principles. Lead daily reading and early literacy and numeracy, and later support homework and academic learning. Notice and build on the girls’ changing interests, emotional needs and milestones.
  • Cooking & Nutrition: Prepare fresh, healthy home-cooked meals and snacks every day, plus packed school lunches for the eldest. Plan meals, order groceries (via the family’s Whole Foods/Amazon account or at the store a 5-minute walk away), batch cook during naps, introduce a wide variety of foods and flavors, and support weaning when the baby is ready.
  • Outings & Activities: Handle school drop-offs and pick-ups and arrange play dates, classes and outings, including visits to the family’s nearby children’s members’ club. All school and regular activities are within a 15-minute walk.
  • Household Support: Work alongside the housekeeping team, who handle deep cleaning. Do the children’s and mixed household laundry, load and unload the dishwasher, keep shared spaces tidy, reset the home at the end of each day, and take out trash and recycling at the end of each shift.
  • Nursery & Supplies Management: Look after the nursery, rotate toys and books, swap clothes each season and check sizes. Keep track of and restock children’s and household supplies, and run errands as needed.
  • Proactivity & Communication: Spot what the children and household need before being asked (gear, clothing, schedules, appointments, supplies). Keep Mum updated clearly and consistently through a shared calendar.
  • Occasional Travel: Travel lightly with the family a few times a year (e.g. spring break trips, summer vacation), with all travel costs covered.

Requirements

  • Qualifications: Norland training is the ideal qualification, and Norland Nannies will be prioritized. Candidates with similar recognized training (e.g. Chiltern) will also be given preference. A minimum of an Early Years degree or similar is required.
  • Experience: Proven, substantial infant and toddler experience in a similar private household setting. Experience caring for children from newborn through to kindergarten age is highly beneficial.
  • Right to Work: Authorization to live and work in the US is preferred. Candidates with H-2B status eligible to transfer, or J-1 eligibility, are also very welcome. If needed, the family will cover the full legal process for work permits for the right candidate.
  • Cooking: A confident, capable home cook with a natural love of preparing fresh, nutritious food for children, or someone who as a minimum enjoys cooking and is willing to learn and be proactive about it.
  • Personality & Approach: Neat and organized by nature, proactive, warm, calm, patient and playful. Respectful, child-led and focused on building independence, and comfortable working closely with a very involved parent. A natural instinct for private service is essential: you know when to step in and when to step back, read the room without being told, and bring quiet discretion to life in a family home.
  • Availability & Energy: Energetic, in good physical shape and fully committed to the role, with the flexibility and resilience to take on full care of both girls when needed.
  • Long-Term Commitment: Looking for a stable, long-term position, ideally staying with the family until both girls reach school age.
  • Certifications & Checks: A strong swimmer with current pediatric first aid and CPR. Non-smoker, with a satisfactory background check and contactable references.
  • Additional: Comfortable around pets (the family has two free-roaming house rabbits; no pet care required).
  • Beneficial: Montessori and/or Reggio Emilia training or experience, experience teaching early reading, a musical background, and a driver’s license (for emergencies or travel only).

What Is Offered

  • Competitive Compensation: Up to $110,000 gross per year, depending on experience and training, plus a discretionary bonus and guaranteed weekly hours.
  • Relocation Support: Very open and flexible relocation help for the right candidate, including support with housing through an increased salary or temporary accommodation on arrival. Full coverage of work permit legal processes where required.
  • Health & Wellbeing: Health and dental insurance, plus paid safe and sick leave above the NYC statutory minimum.
  • Time Off: 10 paid holidays (NYSE calendar) and three weeks’ paid vacation per year: two weeks aligned with family travel, and one week of candidate's choice with four weeks’ notice. Additional days off are very likely.
  • Perks & Allowances: Full reimbursement of NYC commuter transit, a phone plan allowance, and a $500 annual professional development allowance (up to $1,000 at the employer’s discretion) for Norland CPD, pediatric, nutrition, cooking, sleep or similar training.
  • Travel: All travel costs covered, plus per diem and days in lieu for any normal day off worked.
  • Work-Life Balance: A predictable Monday to Friday schedule, with evenings and weekends being the exception. Any changes are agreed in advance and never reduce guaranteed pay.
