A private family is seeking an experienced and personable Live-out Butler to join the household team at their rural estate near Salisbury.
The estate is both a family home and a place of hospitality, regularly welcoming private guests for country weekends, shooting, dining and events. This is a hands-on service position focused on warm, polished hospitality rather than overly formal or intrusive service.
This is a fully live-out role. Candidates must live within a reasonable daily commuting distance of Salisbury or be willing to relocate independently.
Responsibilities
- Providing attentive daily service to the principals, family and guests
- Welcoming guests and looking after them throughout their stay
- Formal and informal food and beverage service across breakfasts, lunches, dinners and drinks
- Supporting shooting days, country weekends, outdoor dining and private events
- Preparing guest-facing rooms, including fires, lighting, flowers, music, drinks and table settings
- Preparing and serving wines, spirits and other beverages confidently
- Maintaining bars, drinks stations, glassware, silverware and service areas
- Packing and unpacking luggage and preparing for family travel
- Liaising closely with the House Manager, chefs, housekeepers and wider estate team
- Briefing and coordinating temporary waiting staff during guest stays and events
- Anticipating requirements and remembering individual guest preferences
- Running errands and assisting with additional household requests when needed
The ideal candidate will
- Have previous butler, private household or high-end hospitality experience
- Have excellent front-of-house and food and beverage service skills
- Be warm, polished, discreet and confident without being overly formal
- Have a genuine interest in wine, spirits and hospitality
- Be practical, hands-on and willing to assist wherever required
- Remain calm and cheerful during busy guest periods
- Appreciate the atmosphere and traditions of an English country estate
- Be flexible regarding early starts, late finishes, weekends and occasional travel
- Hold a full UK driving licence, due to the rural location
- Live within commuting distance of Salisbury or be willing to relocate
- Provide excellent, verifiable references
Experience of shooting hospitality or country pursuits would be helpful but is not essential.
