An exceptional opportunity has arisen for an experienced and highly accomplished Travelling Governess to join an international family, supporting the education, development and wellbeing of two children, a girl aged 6 and a boy aged 8.

The family divides their time between Oxford and Seattle and is looking for a highly educated, engaging and proactive Governess who can provide consistency across both locations. Education is extremely important to the family, and the successful candidate will take an active role in the children’s academic development whilst also encouraging confidence, independence, curiosity and excellent social skills.

This is a dedicated Governess position within a fully staffed household, allowing the successful candidate to focus entirely on the children and their education and development. There are no cooking, housekeeping, laundry or general household responsibilities attached to the position.

The role will involve frequent international travel, and the Governess should enjoy creating enriching opportunities both at home and whilst travelling. The family is looking for someone who can make learning engaging and enjoyable and who will become a positive and consistent role model in the children’s lives.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Supporting the children’s education and academic progress across the primary curriculum.
  • Assisting with homework, school projects and reinforcing learning outside the classroom.
  • Creating an engaging and intellectually stimulating environment that encourages curiosity and a genuine enjoyment of learning.
  • Planning educational projects, creative activities and enriching experiences tailored to the children’s ages, interests and individual development.
  • Encouraging confidence, independence, emotional intelligence and strong social skills.
  • Supporting excellent manners, etiquette and age-appropriate behaviour.
  • Identifying exceptional opportunities for learning and development beyond the classroom.
  • Planning educational and cultural activities during international travel.
  • Supporting the children after school during the week and spending time with them at weekends.
  • Accompanying the family on frequent domestic and international travel.
  • Maintaining excellent communication with the parents regarding the children’s education, progress and overall development.
  • Working collaboratively with the wider household team to ensure consistency and organisation surrounding the children.

Candidate Requirements

  • Native British English speaker.
  • A recognised teaching qualification, Education degree or equivalent.
  • A minimum of 5 years’ professional experience working as a Governess, Teacher or Educator.
  • Strong experience supporting children of primary-school age.
  • Confidence supporting a broad primary curriculum.
  • A genuine passion for children’s education and personal development.
  • A creative and proactive approach, with the ability to make learning interesting and enjoyable.
  • Warm, engaging and naturally confident with children.
  • Highly organised with excellent communication skills.
  • Professional, discreet and adaptable.
  • An excellent role model with strong values and integrity.
  • Flexibility to travel internationally on a frequent basis.
