A wonderful opportunity has arisen for an experienced, hands-on and creative live out Head Gardener to join a prestigious traditional country estate with an historic manor house, set in the beautiful Berkshire.


Staff Duties
This is a rare opportunity for a proactive and self-motivated horticultural professional to take full responsibility for the management, maintenance and ongoing development of extensive gardens and grounds, working closely with the principals and Estate Manager to deliver the long-term vision for the estate. The role is Monday to Friday, 40 hours per week, with some weekend flexibility required. The successful candidate will oversee the full care of lawns, hedges, borders, shrubs, trees and rose gardens, including planting, pruning, weeding, watering, feeding and managing pests and diseases, as well as implementing seasonal planting plans, maintaining garden structures and equipment, safe use and upkeep of machinery, general groundskeeping such as mowing, strimming, mulching and path maintenance, greenhouse management including propagation of flowers, fruit and vegetables, care of the estate orchard, swimming pool and tennis court maintenance, occasional care of chickens and family pets, and supporting wider estate projects as required. The estate is currently undergoing exciting redevelopment with new garden areas being designed and established, and the successful candidate will play a key role in shaping and delivering these projects from the outset, alongside overseeing additional properties within the estate requiring ongoing maintenance. 


Essential Notes
The principals are seeking a highly organised, enthusiastic and confident Head Gardener with strong attention to detail, excellent plant knowledge and a genuine passion for horticulture and garden design, who can manage their own workload independently while remaining flexible and willing to support the wider team and family when needed. Horticultural qualifications are desirable, along with PA1/PA6 spraying certificates and knowledge of trees and woodland management being an advantage. A driver is essential.
