The Role

A warm, professional family is seeking an experienced Live-in Career Nanny for their first child, who will be several months old when the family returns permanently to Berlin.

The family is ideally seeking a German-speaking candidate who is already based in Germany or has strong knowledge of life in Berlin. Applications may also be considered from exceptional candidates who are fluent in English and already have the legal right to work in Germany.

This is a long-term position for someone who wishes to become a valued part of the household over several years. The family plans to have more children and hopes the nanny will eventually support the care of a younger sibling.

The nanny will initially provide full-time weekday care. The schedule will evolve as the baby grows, and when the child begins attending Kita after approximately one year, the nanny will have free time during nursery hours while continuing to provide wraparound care.

We are recruiting separately for both the initial 3–5-month Maternity Nanny position in Cincinnati and the permanent Career Nanny role in Berlin. Candidates may apply for either position individually; however, it would be a significant advantage if one candidate were able and willing to undertake both roles, providing continuity of care as the family relocates from Cincinnati to Berlin.

Responsibilities

• Provide attentive and nurturing care for the infant.
• Establish and maintain age-appropriate routines.
• Monitor development, wellbeing and changing needs.
• Plan sensory play, classes, outings and developmental activities.
• Support early communication and language development, ideally in German.
• Prepare bottles, meals and snacks as the child progresses through weaning.
• Maintain the child’s nursery, clothing and belongings.
• Accompany the child to appointments, activities and outings.
• Provide sole-charge care during the working week.
• Communicate openly with the parents regarding development and milestones.
• Work collaboratively with the parents, weekend nanny and other family support.
• Travel internationally with the family when required.
• Provide wraparound care once the child begins attending Kita.
• Support the care of future siblings as the family grows.

Candidate Requirements

• Minimum of five years’ professional nanny experience.
• Extensive infant-care experience.
• Proven sole-charge experience within private households.
• Native or fluent German strongly preferred.
• Fluent English and confident communication skills.
• Ideally already based in Germany or familiar with Berlin.
• Legal right to work in Germany.
• Strong knowledge of infant routines, sleep, weaning and early development.
• Genuine interest in making a long-term commitment to one family.
• Full driving licence.
• Comfortable with occasional international travel.
• Non-smoker.
• Discreet, professional, adaptable and emotionally warm.
• Excellent references and willingness to undergo comprehensive background checks.

Travel and Accommodation

The family will be based approximately 90% of the time in Germany. International travel will account for around 10% of the role and will ordinarily last no longer than two weeks at a time.

A private bedroom with an en-suite bathroom will be provided in Berlin. All work-related travel expenses will be fully covered.
