Role Overview:
A warm and relaxed international family, recently relocated from California to London, are seeking an experienced and engaging rota governess or governor to support the education and development of their 8-year-old son.

Based in Mayfair, this is a fully staffed household with a chef and housekeeper in place. The role is live-out, and candidates must already be London-based with their own accommodation.

The position is centred around homeschooling, with full responsibility for overseeing the child’s academic programme. This includes delivering lessons, identifying and addressing gaps in learning, and sourcing and managing external tutors where required.

The child is bright, sporty, and well-rounded, with a particular strength in mathematics. He is active, outgoing, and enjoys football and a range of other activities. As with many bright and engaged children, he can at times become emotionally frustrated when things do not go his way, and the family are seeking a calm, firm but fair educator who can gently guide him in developing emotional regulation, resilience, and independence.

The child’s first language is not English, although he has attended school in the United States and has a strong foundation. Continued support with English, particularly in reading and writing, will form an important part of the role.

Key Responsibilities:

• Deliver a structured and engaging homeschooling programme
• Oversee all aspects of the child’s education
• Identify gaps in learning and implement targeted support
• Source, coordinate, and liaise with external tutors as required
• Support English language development, including reading and writing
• Encourage independence, responsibility, and good manners
• Establish clear, consistent boundaries in a calm and positive manner
• Support a balanced lifestyle including academics, sport, and play
• Travel extensively with the family and provide occasional proxy parenting
• Work collaboratively within a fully staffed household

Candidate Requirements:

• PGCE in Primary Education
• Strong teaching background, ideally within both school and private settings
• Minimum 3–5 years’ relevant experience
• Native English speaker
• Confident, calm, and emotionally intelligent
• Able to be firm but fair, with a positive and supportive approach
• Highly organised, proactive, and capable of managing an academic programme
• Sporty and energetic, with a genuine interest in child development
• Flexible and highly travel-ready
• Driver preferred
• Seeking a long-term position, with demonstrated longevity in previous roles
