Job Summary:

To administer, coordinate and implement continuing education, training services and workshops for physician, nurses, students, and staff within an assigned area of expertise. To act as an expert resource for UMMC employees, community members, students, and clinical staff. To coordinate educational opportunities through group demonstrations and lectures on one-on-one coaching and training. To evaluate, update, implement, and facilitate training programs. To perform job duties in accordance with the medical center's purpose.

Education & Experience

Education and Experience Required:

Degree (Associates’ or Bachelor’s) and three (3) years of paramedic, nurse, or respiratory therapist experience.

Certifications, Licenses or Registration Required: 

American Heart Association BLS, PALS, and ACLS Instructor certifications required post-hire within six months.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Knowledge of adult learning principles and training/instructional methods, techniques and formats. Interpersonal skills to effectively interact with a wide range of constituencies.   Problem resolution skills. Ability to identify training/instructional needs. Ability to develop, implement, and evaluate training plans, curricula and methodology. Knowledge and ability to work with current technologies and general office applications (word, excel, powerpoint, etc.). Must be able to prioritize workflows independently and successfully manage affiliated instructors.

Responsibilities:

  • Schedules continuing education and training opportunities for UMMC employees, community members, and students.
  • Provides Simulation training for physicians, internal medicine residents, medical students, faculty, staff, and other community healthcare professionals in AHA’s BLS, ACLS, PALS, and Heartsaver programs as well as any other designated courses or programs.
  • Assists in determining the development and training needs to evaluate and improve the competence and quality of care.
  • Acts as knowledge resource for UMMC employees, community members, and students.
  • Develops, plans and evaluates compliance for employees in accordance with policies, procedures and practice standards and in collaboration with the department of hospital education.
  • Facilitates course files, certifications, and payments in a timely manner.
  • Ensures training center aligned instructor and provider compliance according to authorizing body guidelines.
  • Accurately collects data and builds reports.
  • Trains, develops, and manages affiliated instructors.
  • Manages designated courses and programs.

Physical and Environmental Demands:
Requires occasional exposure to unpleasant or disagreeable physical environment such as high noise level and exposure to heat and cold, occasional handling or working with potentially dangerous equipment, occasional exposure to biohazardous conditions such as risk of radiation exposure, blood borne pathogens, fumes or airborne particles, and/or toxic or caustic chemicals which mandate attention to safety considerations, occasional working hours significantly beyond regularly scheduled hours, occasional travelling to offsite locations, occasional activities subject to significant volume changes of a seasonal/clinical nature, frequent work produced subject to precise measures of quantity and quality, occasional bending, occasional lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds, occasional climbing, occasional crawling, occasional crouching/stooping, occasional driving, occasional kneeling, occasional pushing/pulling, occasional reaching, occasional sitting, frequent standing, occasional twisting, and frequent walking. (occasional-up to 20%, frequent-from 21% to 50%, constant-51% or more)
