Responsibilities:

Under the supervision of the director, incumbent is the department Substitute at 5 centers, Early Childhood Education Center, Verano Preschool, Children’s Center, Extended Day Center, and Infant Toddler Center. Responsible for co-supervising the day-to-day operation of the children in licensed day care facilities serving children from 3 months to 12 years of age. Responsibilities include planning curriculum and outdoor activities, assist in supervision of practicum and field study students.

Qualifications:
  • Ability to work effectively as a member of a child development team, with children, parents, staff members, and community representatives in providing a quality educational program. Effective communication skills, both with children and adults Required
  • Current California Child Development Program permit at teacher level or higher Required
  • Effective communication skills, both with children and adults Required
  • Experience working with infants, preschool and school-aged children in a center-based environment Required
  • Education in child development or related field, or experience equivalent to a bachelor's degree Required
  • 2 years working in a center based licensed day care facilities Required
  • Familiarity with federal and state health safety regulations applicable to a child care facility Required
  • Thorough understanding of child development and the philosophy and methodology of early childhood education, as well as changes taking place in the field Required
  • Knowledgeable of NAYEC Accreditation Criteria Required
  • Ability to plan, organize and direct a challenging developmental and instructional program for infants, toddlers, preschool and school aged children Required
  • Knowledge of appropriate activities (physical, emotional, language, social and cognitive) for this age group Required
  • Knowledge of first aid and health practices appropriate for children ages 3 months to 12 years of age Required

Required:

  • 3 units of Infant Toddler Development coursework completed with a passing grade
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in related field
  • Current California Child Development Program permit at teacher level or above
  • Current First Aid/CPR certifications
  • 2 years working in a center based licensed day care facilities


Preferred:

  • 6 units of Infant Toddler Development

The expected pay range for this recruitment is $23.88 Hourly (Step 1) - $33.84 Hourly (Step 7).


Special Conditions:

  • Documentation of absence of active tuberculosis, as well as MMR and DTAP immunizations, as required by Community Care Licensing
  • This is an in-person position, teachers may be assigned shifts between 7:30 AM - 6:00 PM, Monday-Friday depending on the needs of the department.
