Job Description

An Indian family residing in Bangalore, India is seeking a governor for the care and education of their two sons aged 13 and 10. This is a temporary role to assist the family during a period of change. To bring some structure and assistance to them with regards to helping the boys with their social skills, physical activities, developing a good routine, assisting them to become more independent and how to regulate their emotions well. The eldest boy has mild ADHD, which presents itself with him finding it difficult to build relationships, has difficulty in expressing himself and some emotional dysregulation. He requires a lot of supervision, especially when in larger groups, he is better when he is with people on a 1:1 basis.

The ideal candidate will have experience working with boys of this age group. Be kind and patient, and to be able to gently guide and supervise the children and build a good bond and trust with the children. The family would like a candidate who can also assist with school homework and tuition in Science, Maths, Geography, English. However, they are aware that a candidate may not be comfortable in supporting all these areas and are open to using tutors if and where necessary. The priority is obtaining an excellent working relationship with the boys and supporting their everyday life and promoting good life skills during the 6-month contract.

The children are active, and their main interests lie in cricket, golf, badminton, maths, music, chess, along with playing the guitar and keyboard.

They have a fully staffed household, and you will be provided live-in accommodation within their home (with adequate privacy). The family speak Hindi and English within the home. A candidate that speaks French, Spanish or German that would be happy to assist in their language development would also be interesting to the family.

A candidate with a driving licence is preferred, but not necessary. The family have their own driver. The candidate should be respectful and mindful of the family’s values and assist them in maintaining their routine, which includes traditional practices such as yoga, oil pulling, breathwork, prayer and exercise. Co-ordinating well with the family’s chef, nanny, and mother to ensure a healthy diet is maintained. The family would like you to keep a journal with the children of the activities and promote mindfulness, focussing on gratitude, empathy, forgiveness, and growth. Discussing current affairs and arranging day trips to places of interest and that will promote good knowledge in a host of different areas. It is very important that they continue to develop good manners and respect and to treat others well. The family would also like to limit the use of media devices where possible.

The working hours will be Monday – Friday 5 am – 7.30 am and then 3.30 pm – 9 pm, on Saturdays, 8-10 hours daily, hours to be discussed an agreed.
