POSITION SUMMARY: The Associate Alliance Manager supports the Parker Institute for Cancer Immunotherapy at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute (PICI). The Associate Alliance Manger works from within the DFCI Belfer Office for Dana-Farber Innovations (BODFI) and through the Licensing team within BODFI to ensure proactive engagement and follow-through by DFCI and its funded faculty with respect to intellectual property management, commercial strategy and collaboration with other PICI network institutions on such matters. The Associate Alliance Manager also works through colleagues in the Office of Grants and Contracts and research departments at DFCI to support on matters relating to funding and budgets under this strategic relationship. The Associate Alliance Manager is a key contact for compliance and execution based on contractual agreements between DFCI and PICI and builds strong relationships with administrators, faculty and staff both within DFCI and at PICI. PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Overall: Serves as the primary point-of-contact at DFCI with PICI for intellectual property and commercialization matters. Understands the culture, roles, and decision-making processes at DFCI and PICI in order to facilitate productive discussions and decisions and remove barriers. Works closely with various teams at DFCI to ensure compliance and regular communication; including but not limited to OHRS, General Counsel, ORIC, etc. Works cross-functionally and builds strong and effective working relationships with BODFI colleagues. With oversight from DFCI leadership or other stakeholders at DFCI, guides internal investigators on contractual obligations with PICI. Performs a variety of other tasks, as needed, to ensure the success of the collaborations. Alliance Management: Manages contractual obligations to PICI related to intellectual property and commercialization of intellectual property. Work through DFCI research, DFCI research administration, BODFI Licensing colleagues and PICI counterparts as needed. Collects and updates participation agreements for PICI researchers. Collects and facilitates BODFI diligence on project proposals. Coordinates with BODFI Licensing and Office of Grants and Contracts on disclosure requirements to PICI such as external funding, third party obligations, and annual IP disclosures. Coordinates and collaborates with DFCI PICI program manager to ensure BODFI is updated on research progress, overall program progress and upcoming updates and events between DFCI researchers and PICI. Advises DFCI researchers on terms of the agreement with PICI. Supports discussions and participates in regular meetings with PICI around intellectual property, the licensing or development of new companies and start-ups derived from intellectual property developed in the program. Prepares agendas and minutes for Steering Committee and Program meetings. Coordinates meetings, both internal at DFCI and external with PICI related to strategy for intellectual property strategy, commercialization and licensing, and term sheets for out-licensing. Support PICI Co-Directors and Program Manager on IP and commercialization follow up related to research proposal collection, progress reports, and other meetings with PICI. MINIMUM JOB QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelors in scientific discipline required; PhD in a scientific discipline preferred. 1 year of experience managing a sponsor funded research programs or relationship within an academic medical or biotechnological/pharmaceutical industry environment required. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED: Familiarity and comfort with contracts related to technology transfer including MTAs, Licenses, etc. Excellent communication and people skills—this role is highly relational. Excellent communication (oral and written) and analytical skills. Must be able to communicate proactively and navigate challenging conversations. Exceptional negotiation, conflict-resolution, strategic thinking and influencing skills; openness to new ideas. Comfort with ambiguity. Demonstrated record of successfully managing alliances. Demonstrated management abilities within complex organizations. Strong organization skills. Team player who can work independently and thrives in a fast-paced, demanding environment. Proven ability to build relationships with collaborators and influence without direct supervisory authority. Ability to manage multiple priorities with tight deadlines; versatility, flexibility, and a willingness to work with constantly changing priorities. Flexibility with changes in environment and role.
