Intervention Tutor for Eastern Mennonite School


Reports to:


Chief Academic Officer


Salary Scale:


Temporary Service Agreement at an Hourly Rate for approximately 25 hours


PRIMARY FUNCTION:
Provides tutoring/intervention services to small groups of students in the area of reading and math. The candidate will ensure that the school meets Title I requirements, including those tied to parent and family engagement, and will perform related tasks as required and directed by the Chief Academic Officer, in consultation with, and under the direct supervision of, private school administration. The selected candidate will confer with classroom teachers regarding student needs and performance and work independently to provide instruction to identified students. The position is anticipated to be a total of 25 hours for the 2024-2025 school year only.


QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Have completed 2 years of college (associates and/or bachelor degree preferred).
  • Proficiency in spoken and written communication to express and/or exchange ideas.
  • Ability to establish and follow detailed work procedures with speed and accuracy.
  • Emotionally mature, objective, and sensitive to the needs of others. Able to handle responsibility, work independently, and maintain collaborative working relationships with students, families and co-workers.
  • Effectively demonstrates the ability to perform the essential functions.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to present to diverse audiences to foster professional relationships and express and/or exchange ideas.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in the use of a variety of office/instructional equipment and technology with experience using Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, and email.
  • Demonstrated leadership qualities and personal characteristics necessary for working effectively with students, teachers, administrators, and the community.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:


  • Provides instruction to small groups of children in the area of reading and math.
  • Administers formal assessments to monitor the progress of students.
  • Tracks and maintains assessment data.
  • Supports an inviting and functional learning environment while caring for material and equipment.
  • Informs the teacher of any special information or concerns about an individual student.
  • Maintains appropriate state licensure; assumes responsibility for and participates in staff development (professional growth) and training to keep materials, supplies, and skills up-to-date.
  • Follows appropriate safety procedures and properly maintains equipment.
  • Responds to telephone, email and in-person requests, inquiries and questions in a professional, polite and responsive manner.
  • Serves as role model by developing and effectively maintaining professional boundaries with students and staff at all times. Ensures respect for the ethical and legal duties in the staff-to-student and administrator-to-staff relationships.
  • Serves as a role model for others, as an educational leader, by demonstrating good attendance, punctuality, appearance, demeanor, dress and behavior.
  • Actively participates in and attends all required meetings.
  • Maintains confidentiality in all matters.
  • Models professional, moral, and ethical standards as well as personal integrity in all interactions, including non-discriminatory and cultural inclusion practices by respecting the worth, dignity and individual beliefs of others.
  • Effectively performs other duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS / WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Light work, lifting up to 25 pounds occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds frequently. Regular travel throughout the school and effectively interact with students, staff, and community members. Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; visual acuity is required for preparing and analyzing written or computer data, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities; and subject to inside and outside environmental conditions. Regular contact with staff members is required. Not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions.

Performance will be evaluated in accordance with school board policy and administrative regulations on the evaluation of administrative personnel.
