Job Overview:

We are seeking a smart and creative full-time tutor/1:1 to work with our daughter who will be entering the 9th grade in the fall. Her academic abilities are uneven, but she is able to do moderately advanced academic work (basic sciences, basic algebra and geometry, social studies, etc.) She is bright, and curious with a very sociable personality, and likes learning. Her special needs include difficulty with social skills, motor skills, and needing support with focus/executive functioning. The ideal candidate will have a solid educational background, an ability to work with children with differences, capable of creating interesting academic projects, and working with the staff at the school. While experience in special needs education is a plus, we are open to any applicants who are thoughtful, flexible in teaching approach, and interested in developed a strong rapport with our daughter. Our daughter attends a small private school for children with many different kinds of differences. The position would include being both a personal tutor for part of the day at school (and ideally at home during school breaks) and her 1:1 for group learning. We live in Lower Merion PA and her school is in Riverton, NJ. For candidates who are relatively nearby to us, we would ideally be looking for someone who might be able to provide transportation to and from school. (We cover time, gas and mileage for driving.) For candidates in NJ or otherwise further from us, we may be able to provide the transportation.

Responsibilities:

- Provide one-on-one learning during the school day in Riverton, NJ and ideally at home in Lower Merion, PA during school breaks.

-Provide 1:1 support during the school day while in group learning classrooms, including collaborating with her other teachers and helping navigate the school environment.
- Create engaging and interactive lesson plans, incorporating a range of teaching strategies and materials.
- Develop and implement appropriate curriculum materials.
- Foster a supportive learning environment, reinforcing social skills across all school activities.
- Communicate regularly with parents, caregivers and the school, keeping them informed of student progress and any concerns or issues that arise.
- Collaborate with other educators and professionals to ensure a comprehensive and effective educational experience.

Experience:

- Proven experience in a teaching or tutoring role. (Strong background in curriculum development and lesson planning preferred but not required.)

Skills:

-Ability to develop engaging and interactive lesson plans

-Enthusiasm and joy in engaging with a delightful child with differences and desire to form an educational and social collaboration with her

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $30.00 - $40.00 per hour

Expected hours: 35 – 40 per week

Schedule:

  • 8 hour shift
