Job Summary:  Under the direct supervision of the Head Start/Early Head Start Director, plans and administers LCAA’s Early/Head Start Programs according to South Carolina Department of Social Services, South Carolina Department of Health and the Department of Health and Human Services, Administration of Children and Families; and the overall objectives of the Lowcountry Community Action Agency Head Start/Early Head Start Program.      Responsible for the planning and administering the program’s services for children and families, of a full-year, full-day Head Start and Early Head Start program in conjunction with other Early Childhood Education programs (districts, school readiness), to carry out the overall goals and objectives of Head Start programs in compliance with Head Start Performance Standards.  Manages and directs the organization toward its objectives, based on Federal, State and local laws and regulations, and Head Start Performance Standards using prudent and recognized administrative and fiscal practices.  Coordinates the Head Start/Early Head Start program’s support services with staff in other content areas that include the ongoing monitoring of assessment of the quality of services provided.    Under direct supervision of the Education Manager, will assist the teacher in the classroom environment at the Head Start Program Center.  What You’ll Do:
  • Assist teacher in preparing instructional materials and in implementing classroom activities for pre-school children. 
  • Assist teacher in developing appropriate activities to encourage in the intellectual, social, physical and emotional growth and developments of pre-school children. 
  • Assist teacher in supervising the indoor and outdoor play activities of pre-school children. 
  • Assist teacher in ensuring the adequacy of supplies and equipment needed to carry out various program activities. 
  • Assist in preparation and serving of breakfast and luncheon meals and snack to children. 
  • Arrange conference and home visits with parents of children enrolled in the Head Start Program. 
  • Teacher Aide will assume the responsibility of the teacher in the absence of the teacher. 
  • Attend training sessions, staff meetings and parent meetings. 
  • Must ride bus as a monitor to help supervise children. 
  • Must obtain CPR and First Aide Certificate. 
 What You’ll Need:
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. 
  • Ability to plan and execute course curriculum according to the prescribed program of providing enriching experiences for children enrolled in the Head Start Program. 
  • Ability to convey effectively to underprivileged children and their parents and to comprehend and decipher their needs. 
  • Ability to express and deal with subject matters clearly; ability to supervise teacher assistant’s and volunteers assigned; ability to maintain accurate records 
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions. 
  • Must have a Bi-Annual TB Test. 
  • Drug Testing will take place randomly, without notification. 
 Education & Experience
  • Must have an Associate’s Degree or Child Development Degree (CDA)
  • One (1) year of classroom experience with pre-school children
  • Must have a valid SC Driver’s License.

  • Must have and maintain current CPR and First Aid certifications. 
  • Ability to obtain Child Development Permit at Site Supervisor level, implement before and after school care, within one year of hire date.
